Authentic materials for teaching ESL

This week was an interesting topic to read but also to keep in mind in our future classes. As future teachers we have to keep in our mind and in our hands many ideas to do in the momment of develop a class. This reading caught my attention because I realized that we definitely have to look for authentic materials for teachin ESL, listening, visual and printed skills can be more interactive and interesting because students will be able to listen native pronunciation and learn native vocabulary or abreviations that normally is no taught in a traditional ESL materials. What make me read more about the article was the 4 creative ways for teaching ESL that are presented in the article.

These activities are very creative and based on something important, which is not just teaching the topic, it it also a way to help them to improve their learning, to open their mind, to make them avoid shyness and become better students and successful people. for that reason is very important that teachers choose carefully the activities they will apply. They have to observe the necessity of each student and the level they are. As the article says authentic materials are a bridge to fill the gap of each learner and the wide quantity of activities we can put in practice are going to be a very useful tool for making learners develop themselves comfortably in real life and to put in practice what they learn as much as necessary.

ReplyDeleteI believe that these awesome ideas to teach a really nice class are incredibly because they help us to improve our classes in the future. The most important thing is that these ideas help the students to improve their learning and to avoid the shyness. Because as you know there are some of them that did not like to participate because they do not feel confident about their thoughts or ideas. For that reason, it is important to know some of these ideas. One of my favorites was MENUS because they can learn about many topics ordering a dish por example, Adjectives. I think it is a great idea.
I really liked this article, because allows you to think out of the box. It shows how important is to work with real life activities, because at the end is where the language has to be practice. Also, the examples that are show in the article are very nice. Students will have to practice their skills in real life activities and at the moment to put in practice for real they will feel more confident
ReplyDeleteHello Natalia, I understand what you say and I strongly agree. in my opinion, y think that are many materials that, as a teacher, can be used to develop the skills of each student. For example, you can use TV, radio, commercial, news, etc. to listen. For visual, photographs, works of art, posters with symbols, postcards, illustrated books, etc. For printed menus, restaurant menus, newspaper articles, bulletin boards, corporate websites, etc. All these authentic materials help in an excellent way to create fun and motivating classes for students.
